V. 2. / 106.) I Think That When I Tumbled . . .

I think that when I tumbled
I fell into the well
And sank into its deep dark vault
Through endless fathoms down
Past inky strands of veiled weeds
That walled the well’s surrounds
I fell and fell but upside-down
Went slowly down and down –
I passed the deep I feared too much
But with open arms outstretched
Reached down my hands and
Caught the joy – the thing that first
Had bid me fall – the dive
For the pearl of love and truth
The Pearl of the greatest price of all.
