V. 2. / 176.) Permanence

A single briar rose on a garden trellis
Faced the sun and opened her petals
A sparrow on the rim of a tiny pool ---
Seeing water, splashed and bathed
Diamonds in rain sparkling on leaf tips
Held against gravity eventually fell
The petals, too, one by one --- the lone
Sparrow left: time takes what it brings

The lovely things of Nature --- they
Come and go, they rise, fill the world
With beauty, and leave --- Not so the
Things I see in vision they have some
Strange permanence, it’s as if they’ve
Always been --- existing --- outside
The world and they always will ---
For they do not fade with time, I find
