‘Oh…!’
It was the
slightest touch did it
That little
skipped beat of a quickened heart
All in one second’s flash
The glimpse that
something’s there!
Foiled the
stealer’s usual dimming dark
By just a spark!
A feather’s breath of air
Ah, knowledge
didn’t floor me that time
I saw it…
It was the
slightest touch that did it
Leaving me in
that second drunk on airy wine
An ‘Oh...!’ And
suddenly, I see
A thousand
weighty tomes never brought such light
Such as I knew then –
In that lighting moment
Not all the tea
in China could refresh me more
Or fill my cup
with joy to bubble over
Yet, when I went
to grasp it – to hold it to me tight
It left me flat
and bare, slipped through my fingers there
Not till I chose
to believe was it still there
But just below
the surface . . .
Where I couldn’t
touch it
