Vol. 2. / 180.) The Sound of Colour

From the verandah, late, I looked up
A familiar view, but oh, so different
Sound was in it, though all was still
Sound at play, and playing, in and all
Around me and as if I was a part of it

There was a sound in blue --- just as
There was in yellow: the sky declared it
And where it would blend the two together
There the sound of green --- the leaves
Whispering it on the evening breeze

Sharp caught my breath as I heard red
There was a break in it the dahlias sang
Of red and blue and yellow all the world
Was made, and in their mixing in the view
There a perfect symphony of sound

Vol. 2. / 179.) Light In The Space Between

The apple is prised from its skin
And there is a space in between ---
Phrases loose themselves from
The pages and light shines between ---
The owls know, seeing in the dark
They fly through the dense trees ---
Light shines in a thing cleanly divided
And love makes the in between to live
Only love sees truly and hears but
Is a sealed door to every hard heart

Vol. 2. / 178.) Sound In World Within Worlds

Sound in worlds within worlds
A joyous delight in depths ---
A plant rooted in the ground
Flowers in the air
A creature drawn to water
Flies in the firmament
A vital element of Earth
Falls from under the sky
And no one takes it to heart
And finds wisdom there

The seeing of the thing itself:
First sight . . .
And one thing out of another:
Second sight . . .
And in the essential out of that:
Third sight . . .
And a whole hid understanding:
For three is at the heart and centre
Of all things toward an answer
It is three gardens I was given

Vol. 2. / 177.) Triad Light

A lone briar rose bends her head
The sun has warmed her entire being
Nectar un-gathered gathers sweetness
But there is none to see or hear her

The sparrow revels in another realm
Of sky sourced she is given to water
In an element not her own she plays
Heaven’s own arms wrap round her

Rains sunlit upon the leaf ends wait
But a fall of diamonds time allows
They pause, they shine, then speak
In doing nothing of themselves

All that I have . . .
Comes from you within me
All that I am . . .
Is what you have given me to be
All that I can do . . .
I do with you

V. 2. / 176.) Permanence

A single briar rose on a garden trellis
Faced the sun and opened her petals
A sparrow on the rim of a tiny pool ---
Seeing water, splashed and bathed
Diamonds in rain sparkling on leaf tips
Held against gravity eventually fell
The petals, too, one by one --- the lone
Sparrow left: time takes what it brings

The lovely things of Nature --- they
Come and go, they rise, fill the world
With beauty, and leave --- Not so the
Things I see in vision they have some
Strange permanence, it’s as if they’ve
Always been --- existing --- outside
The world and they always will ---
For they do not fade with time, I find

Vol. 2. / 175.) Little Pieces

Little pieces slide in
And click ---
We do not need to wait
For them ---
They are all there
Before we looked ---
The whole was in it:
And so it was found to fit

If here the written chain
Is seen to tangle ---
Out of order ---
It is only so
To those who find it so ---
For in this certain sequence
Were they straitly formed

For if the thread was air
And the wind did write it
It was one after the other
The little pieces slid to click
Quick as the dawning

V. 2. / 174.) The Book

The book cast aside by the world
Was mine ---
In it, and out of it, I existed
Put into me it was
And taken out of it I am
And that not of my own self

No one can understand its pages
When they think they do
They don’t ---
Nor do they understand
What should come out of it
Human reason gets it back-to-front

Human thinking turns upon itself
And so finds there only what it has

What it hasn’t is what it needs
For what it has is not sufficient ---
Not by any measure --- nor can any
Human wisdom hold what cannot
Be held by any single human mind
And we will not surrender and so
We will never understand ourselves
