The Pear Tree . . .

1.)    IN THE DREAM OF THE PEAR TREE

The Pear Tree and the Sun

THE PEAR TREE uprooted from the earth
Branches thin and angular...
Its roots dangling...
Moving in its transit through other times
Receiving life...
Suspended in rays of sunlight
As it made its journey above the earth
Anchored in the ground of dreams

All it bore...
Was filled with the light which gave it life...
The fruit of perfect answers... past and future
Ever present...
Given to the winged who partook... where were
No laws to bridle life...
Nothing could limit what it could be, or do
This tree replied to dreams no man ever knew he dreamed

2.)   IN THE DREAM OF THE PEAR TREE

The Bridge to Everland

IN A THING of love, nothing but wonder
A breath of home in believing the impossible
You had found the bridge to Everland...
The spread of its gossamer threads
In hidden leaps of silver...
And the space of time it took
For the bridge to be extended along the leap
One single fearless heartbeat on winged feet

It could take you, from here to there
And to where the pear tree was
Inside the place of answers tucking you in
Enfolding you in holds of whispered love...
For at least a few seconds...
Ecstatic lifting second-sight, knowing you
Had seen...
For these were... live...
And so, lived always, never forgotten

3.)   IN THE DREAM OF THE PEAR TREE

Wheels Within Wheels

TIME WITHIN times where was no time
Wheels within wheels
Moving in four directions all at once
Where the priceless fruit of perfect answers were
Myriad returns of lost things found
The heart’s first dream and least hope was
Seen and dwelt there
In all the pear tree’s travels to distant places
And other times

Ground by windmill stones beside the sea
Those tiny pips in pairs the pear tree grew
My answers lost and found
Made bread and meat
And I saw what it meant to be loved in the lover
Taken with him there, where life was
Bruised and crushed for the food of life

Wheels Within Wheels... Time Within Time . . .

Out of Darkness
Links of truth let my tears shine through
Where the angel roses flower celestial bright
From where the lilies of a wider field do rest
Rare blossoms there where ‘ere their hearts had dared

Pierced the rose by love in crystal drops
From out of darkness where the light shines
For sight they see from blindness tinged with red
The truth from which every selfish heart is hid

Crushed the lily by love’s most tender hand
Wide the fragrant places where their flower died
From pearled valleys steeped in grief that found them first
Their joyous light from which the untouched flower hides

End of night let truth’s light from out of darkness rise
From the womb of dawn love opens stooped to hear
To comfort hearts that to her cry from all hurting places
Kind her hid surprise in truth’s slant circuit laid

Cached of love in safety from the prudent and the wise
Turned upside down the truth she hid in secret places
That none might read to steal she buried light in darkness
Foolish faith not cleverness finds decrease delight

Of love’s own prism split the fragments of the light
Weighed in measures none could fathom truth’s surprise
That in their going under babes could comprehend
And in their knowing nothing, find in loss the light

New Wine . . .

      New Wine

We ran---we happy, freed captives---
Dancing with the Wind that carried us---
Running through the scalloped edges of the scarlet sea---
No lines to shore---
No sticky knowledge---
The old wine---gone---
Long gone---
And we, stripped and burned, new wineskins are---
Fashioned with the supple strength of eternal trust
Filled to overflowing with the wine of new life

'I will bring the blind by a way they knew not; I will lead them in paths they have not known . . .'

     The Flowers of Sensennae

Of beauty he hid the ancestral homes of darkness
In places robbed of stairs the captured host
That lost of time and through every age of hope
The fragile few would have their broken fortunes spoken

Can he judge through the dark cloud?
How does he know that through darkness discerned?
Yet all the lovely flowers of Sensennae would die glad
If they took their loss as glory gladly won

By perfect counsel love through light revealed
Strength in weakness written in threads of black
So that loosed above each dove untied of lies
Went hurtling at the speed of light through Sky

Unveiling rapture long hid in mystery’s grasp
Sent in time’s fullness filled the earth
That those which in darkness sat have light
And find within their missing part their spirit met

Made one where ‘ere their battle fought was true
They won by that which before seemed backward
But forward turned the hard thing found a treasure
Safe their rejoicing found in themselves alone

When cast their pride they lost their former flowers
Free of every hindering thing they flew
On silver wings each single dove renewed
In altared orbit free to fly where’ ere love took them

Shed with joy the lovely flowers of Sensennae
Man’s outer glories gladly lost for what will last
The brightest he had did fade away to nothing
When by endless life with love’s truth compared

Precious the more hidden joys within them
Though in thorn and briar the new would come
In drops of red love’s hurt did shine more real
And burn in them the flower that never fades

Of everlasting petals bloom our borders
Of shining rainbow gems are built our walls
Black gates flung open to dawn’s crimson splendour:
All the lovely flowers of Sensennae seen no more

Why was one lonely? ...Still were secrets hid, for love sake...

Out of Dry Ground

Still secrets hid which from ancient ages followed
From fragrant clasps encased in darkest night
Wreathed in mystery’s keep which only babes can open
Doves of an ivory tower wrest the serpent’s stolen truth

A life which sings will from an inner stone emerge
Out of dry ground the sweet refrain of every stinging thing
No beauty there that was not glimpsed through pain
The despised who saw it with heaven’s stone kept tryst

In every weeping valley low love hid a door of hope
For the hurting her bounty of light’s ‘inside out’
Those cheated of an earthly calm would they find there joy
And that in truth abundance rare awaited their reward

In all unwanted gifts hid away the glory of the giver
Of Pandora’s Box for selfish self’s desire nothing there
In esteeming each the outer of the inner gift were poor
The one we left the good part and life’s shaded joy

Who would see a harvest come of what we harboured
For those who for love died a feast out of dry ground
Delight and an inner hidden wealth of death and glory
And Everland our home in heaven’s days on earth

The seed that must die for it to live . . .

‘Except a corn of wheat
fall into the ground and die,
it abideth alone:
but if it die,
it bringeth forth much fruit.’

In calming the quivering earth---the watered seed---
Accepting the suddenness of its dreadful blessing---
Draws from it a sense of settled place---
In which---in secret---to swell---and then to split.

And the pressing darkness that had been upon it---
The veiling shroud---now understood:
The essential part in its inner growth---
And the pain of the stretching was unto the uttermost.

The death of it for life must rend aside its earthen skin---
And the true dividing of its heart in two parts
That it might live that life---above---rooted below---
For another life---it had hardly dreamed of
And never seen.

Of what it might become---
It had no knowledge.
It could not see.

The lovely flower---its future destiny---
Un-imagined in such compacted darkness.

Yet the sun---reaching in---drew out its heart upwards
What it could not understand it trusted---
For all within---responded!
Moving beyond itself for joy of entering warmth.

It is loving that matters.

The Parting of the Sea . . .

'As if the Sea should part
And show a further Sea---'
-
Emily Dickinson

It was as though the mystic beauty of even the natural realm
that we were so enamoured of... had parted...
and we were given a glimpse of what was beyond...
a 'knowing' of a far deeper realm of beauty...
terrifying...infinitely lovely...
because it was love.

But I saw the marvel was in the parting...
coming...in being dividing asunder...in my own midst...
that there was the road looked for
but never been seen...until the piercing within.

It was there the seeing came
revealing the two edges of the sea...
and...the pathway...that was between...
and along it, through it...
to the vision of what was beyond . . .
and beyond a red sea.
