Story: 17. ) Star Books & Serendipity: The Coffee Table Book . . . from: A BOOK IS LIKE A SACRED ISLE: A Rain of Booklight; a Book About Books

Star Books & Serendipity

Books come in many different sizes and values, and with an infinite variety of ways and means in which they can impact our lives and captivate our soul.
While we are in the midst reading them, or are intending to read them, they largely live on low tables somewhere or other. But after their having been ‘eaten and digested’ by us the majority are quite happy to live out their lives on our bookshelves. But, our most heavenly books, no, these are too lovely to be kept unseen on our shelves. These beautiful books sit in pride of place on any appropriate table in restful rooms in our house. They are mostly too large to fit on a shelf anyway; but not always; there are some gorgeous tiny books to be left lying around the place.
Perhaps, there were books even purposely designed, not to be tucked away when finished, but to be put on display, to bring continuing pleasure to their owners, and to any discerning visitor.
In an intriguing way these books are saying who their owners are. In their visible place in our homes, they have become not the expression of their authors there, but of us their owners: speaking of the things we are interested in, and of our inner lives, giving out what makes us tick. Here in seemingly quiet leisure these dynamic volumes are living out their lives as an intrinsic ‘presence’ in the room . . . actively enhancing the room . . . contributing to its energy . . . spiritually adding to its elegance . . . functioning in it as its mystery.
Sometimes these volumes can be attractive tomes of pseudo antiquity; but mostly they are oversized glossy picture books on every subject under the sun.
And, yes, the books are changed, from time to time; especially the library books; and that is fun seeing which books we feel to leave on the table. It is no coincidence which we leave, or put away; there is a purpose greater than we can see in all our actions.
Left lying on the lower tables of our house, made for times of mind resting, these books can touch and reach our heart better, by bypassing our mind; which has been put on hold a little while, as we sit and rest.
And, of course, such books have even been given a name, a genre: ‘coffee table books:’ volumes which have been pre-dedicated to their own peaceful surrender; mildly wondering who will pick them up next? Being as they are available not only to their owners, but to any casual observer left to while away the time; leafing slowly and mindlessly through them, as they perhaps wait for someone to come and talk to them? Opportunities for these books to touch people are almost endless!

Star Books

I sit – not hiding –
And wonder – if any man will ever find me?
All my babble is there –
Going undefined: unreasoned

Hidden in my opened pages –
This book I am –
Unread by the fearing human eye
But of angels known – and understood

Tastings in the Tinglewoods

In the bearings of the beautiful
Lingerings of the light
In my tastings in the tinglewoods
Ripe rimmings fire red

In the rivers writing wreaths of things
Circles of my soul
In those were further wings within
Soft spinnings burnt and bled

In the playings of the plentiful
Weavings of the willow
In my graspings in the tangible
Swift singings glad and bold

Many cornered are my pathways
Calling the melodic
In those were fillings up inside
Fed runnings hid within

In the leavings letting go awhile
Spillings of my will
In my surgings in the sounds of things
Bright learnings rippling through

Origins

You don’t throw away the book you came out of
You don’t lightly discard
Your particular upbringing
When you think you’ve gone further

You couldn’t anyway
Being as it’s all in you and through you
Coming out through its cracks in you
Because you’re a part of it

Yet, you can let go, and leave any outer freely
When the kernel of its innards is truly, truly in you
Though telltale traces of its colour will always remain
To sprout out through your thoughts and inspired creations

Old things in new things they were always emerging
But refined through the leaving becoming most precious
And coming to the end of it, released unto liberty
All glorious, all new . . . at last!

Though many secretly despised the holy screed
More treasured it
It contained the source, the origin and the wellspring
Of all that was good and noble in this world
The light to clear away the clutter
But, misread, it caused the greatest of horrors in it
Falsely turned one-sided it did more harm than good
Mostly in those who thought they knew what it meant

Its living language could shrivel up little weeds
But inflate bigger ones
Reading by its outsides seeing only shadows

Afraid of embracing what took from them
Not owning the freeing humiliation:
Of not understanding what made
The beginning of knowledge and the uncoverer of treasure

Expecting to understand raised blinkers
And blinded
Deeply hidden the truth from my proud prying eye

It was in seeing myself in the bad weeds in the story
That set me free for the best joys
And deep comprehending
All else led to lead weights and a hard judging heart:

Oh what I lost of the truth through the gaining
Of what I thought to be the knowledge of it

The Saga of Amethyst Poetry / Part Two: The Ragged Writings

‘The Ragged Writings of Everland:  A collection of poetic writing’

A definition:  n. a 'ragged writing' is basically a poem rejected: being as it is an affront to the intellect, because the most used part of the mind can’t make much sense of it!

An explanation: a piece of 'ragged writing' which upon first reading appears incomprehensible, will to the diligent searcher slowly render its secret treasure upon each subsequent reading; enlarging the faculties of the inmost being to taste and eat of a whole new kind of fare. If we will but let go the incessant demand of our intellect to understand something before we can enjoy it, we might develop the spiritual capacities that are within us instead – the ones which make us who we truly are – the exercise of which will bring a more satisfying reward than we could imagine.
It is hard. But narrow a river and it will flow for you more swiftly. Over feeding the intellect has hindered the heart. Help a butterfly escape from its cocoon, and it dies. Its wings never develop.  It needed its struggle to fly.
Read without wanting. Read as though being read, yourself. These writings are as looking-glass stones, reflecting back at you whatever you see in them. You could work them out, with some mental effort; or you could soak them in, with no effort at all; in both ways are treasures. Most of all you will discover, to your joy that you are given out of not demanding to understand.

‘Everland:’

A definition and explanation: Everland: the internal Land through which we ever journey onward, and always ‘further up and further in;’ her shores are as mystical as Avalon, and her waters as dark as Annwn in the elusive quest for the beyond; her interior as timeless and real, as heaven on earth.
