Where I Close My Book

Where I close this book the place I mark
Where shut, every trace of where I've been is gone
Yet, when I put aside all this thought awhile
Still it lives, the intriguing thing, the pearl
In a place it marks its own within my heart

A Book is like a Looking-Glass

A book is like a looking-glass . . .
for me a mirror lake of tears un-shed
A viewing thing of inward silver:
By its light I see the inside story
   of myself . . .
I look for peace,
But see my heart’s own insecurities
reflected back at me instead . . .

But, safe, joyous in another’s fantasy
in storied freedom, all is without fear!
And yet, fear, what has it to offer peace
if not experience of its own wealth:
      its own wisdom fathomed;
So, why flee, my soul, the spot you see?
Fear returns me great riches,
far beyond any peace could ever give!

A Book is like a Painted Landscape

A book is like a painted landscape
Always there unless I turn away
Its story working while I read
So that at its end, when I have
Stared enough, its picture leaves
In me, an imbibed impression

Deep Pools

Deep pools of sacred possessions
Un-cautioned cascades of revelation
Chasing braved bounties in love’s tellings
And a bright-made woven holder
For all my heart’s own wrested rovings

Daft pieces of fast ravings
Un-careful shavings of sharp arrows
Colliding particles in plenty’s pouring
And a soft-filled safety folder
For all my heart’s own suffered bleedings

Dusted scribblings of dashed truth
Un-captured portions of chaliced lives
Coiling burned embers in my seven sides
And a silver-made chaste casket
For all my heart’s own secret sorrows

                         *
Un-counted the silver of silent stars
Standing without end or known number
Like my ribs
All broken in love’s reachings
Like my bruised heel and wounded head

In the Heart of Me

Flowing swirling running free
Falling water calling me
Captured deep the sunlight’s song
Day’s pouring water in the heart of me

Floating lifting soaring free
Curling air all calling me
Released above the starlight’s song
Night’s twirling air in the heart of me

Flaming heating rising free
Burning fire all calling me
Configured wide the firelight’s song
Winter’s warming oil in the heart of me

Finding caring winding free
Steadying earth all calming me
Pressured long my low-light’s song
Summer’s cooling earth in the heart of me

Fair Fairways

Up from the steep depths of all we wanted to find
Were plumb lines that wound through circled spaces
Conceding not in cloaks of doubt
To measure the hid light there and the lined parts of seven
Those that come in hunted pourings upheld by the few

Only telling things lifted there went flying about
Through the gifted part of four in lines times-ed of seven
The twisting part tearing there, aligned with joy within
And the better part of two caught up in heaven’s rain
Pausing not to filter through on level plains

Winding vespers visible silently keep watch
Long piping down the valley bright held of the greening
More summoned of the brave than the sweetly good
Free from separate pieces all made one
Callings of the whistling in the yearning parts of you

In life’s fair fairways troubled shoots went through
All purple featherings paired with diamonds in between
In hope of night’s troubled passing borne
Where all was swiftly lighted Your way, Yourway!
Through our feeble portioned patterns, running through

In hopes of our return and no more migrating
Flocks flying in densely compacted forays
And pourings out through unveiled openings
Flowering through things which pierced walled cavities
Taken up from skegs in all our hollowed out wells

Patterned clearings of cloud in mystery’s unravelling
Unbending partings which draw us out
Up through fair fairways in our mountain places
To broader palaces within the tender heart inside us
And learning there of the cutting, the treasure it held
In halves of willowed things the giving part of two
Pressures of lifted footings ripening through pain
Carrying the blessing part of things –
What we could see in all places of the expanding
Freed possessions all loosely held, the beauties of the fearless

All sown in tapestries of love, yet borne of bronze armour
And bright shields and spears behind walled gardens
Fearless rubbing rings of things in golden castings
Free flowing writings lining our treasured places
Wrought through the releasing of those things within

Amethyst Poetry / Writing Saga # 2 / Continuing Inspiration According to Surrender

All that I had in the way of any qualifications for writing was through my heart's surrender in the LORD, my Beloved, in simple faith and love. All that came out of my midst in ‘ragged writing’ was inspired upon the inner wings of a complete ‘letting go’ and a total losing to find. Every day new inspiration came at the very moment I began to write; for every day the inestimable treasure of loving surrender was given me in the Spirit.
Although I had studied Journalism for a year in London when I was eighteen years old, writing was in me from the time I first learned to hold a pencil. …My first ‘book’ I wrote at the age of seven and a half. It consisted of five, one sentence pages, all sown together with purple yarn . . .

‘My Book

When I am old I will write a pearl.

The pearl will be 25,000 miles wide because it will circle the world in one second.

It will be the smallest thing which can do that, small as a pea under 20 mattresses.

That is why it will be a pearl.

Then the world will know what is has forgotten, and I will be gone.’

The Saga of Amethyst Poetry / Part Four: A New Art

If art went abstract, couldn't poetry? If some streams of art turned 'incomprehensible,' but not without a battle for acceptance first, should I wonder at or fear initial rejection? Although these 'poems' are not abstract - for like the inventive artist every line or brush stroke is full of known meaning - I suppose they might appear so, at first glance! But I had experienced that the heart 'rent in twain' could carry the mind's every finding further and deeper, and that it wasn't necessary for the outer parts of it to understand, in order to perceive light via the spirit.
In joy and wonder I was shown that the primary purpose of these poems, is not that they be literally understood, but that they literally make us littler. For the littler we are the lighter we become; and the lighter we become the happier we are, which isn't by more, but by less.

The Saga of Amethyst Poetry / Part Three: Springtime of Acceptance

From the commencement of an inner springtime: my heart made transparent, I started writing poetry once more; and where I had left off. The sap rose again, and more powerfully for having endured such a harsh winter. Up through the fiery pillar, in the midst of me, ‘the force that through the green fuse drives the flower.’ * The issue of life out of death, light out of darkness, brought forth new uncurling ‘leaves,’ having torn my heart, even further apart. And now it seemed my writings were even harder to decipher; they were, perhaps, even more incomprehensible! But that was alright! It was alright! Delight washed over all I wrote, and I knew I was where I was meant to be – in the Unknown with God. Confidence revived. The door opened.

Amethyst Poetry

Sometimes, truth, too hard to be said in one way, will find another way to express itself; love never ceases to translate its fiery gems. Sometimes beauty, too piercing to be conceived in its raw state, will come to us clothed in complexity that we might be able to bear it; even appearing in a form we might naturally resist in order to protect itself from being too easily seen. The interior of love too wonderful by far to be perceived by any proud eye, its secrets were the portion of the pure in heart. As the ennobling fires of beauty and truth wait to be welcomed of the poor in spirit, so the shining amaranthine gems of Amethyst Poetry are poised here, their truth and beauty hidden, yet waiting to be discovered. All gifts of love to all who read...shine through the amaranthine rocks Amethyst Poetry . . .
