A Child Enters In the Unseen Image of the Visible . . .

Certain seen the flow that from a native stream
Pours over level ground and at an end tumbles
Crashing down in free abandon---
A first-flight fall--- of water

Dreams are not more silent, nor mirrors still
Than a a child’s quick-silver heart
In seeking a second---
Another pouring beneath the natural

The unseen--- the unheard of--- life--- in a place
Has its roots in the first---
Matching its deep desire and going under
Falling into the depths and anchoring there---
Bringing up the essence of a second
Faintly heard beneath

We, then--- listening--- hear only silence---
The force and power of the seen
Overwhelming the under-thing of the spirit---
But in a child’s mind and life there are no empty spaces
Silence--- stillness--- alive for them---
Theirs the life within the life--- the treasure highly sought

Finding a world within a world---
A place enclosed---
Quiet immobility captures them---
Mirrored dreams sending them moving fast---
And well beyond the wise---

Full of endless possibilities---
The impossible--- sounds--- they hear:
The crinkling tinkle of dew settling
Eddying currents of air on a windless day
Close-footed steps of moonbeams along the shore---
A waterfall of spirit for them
Falls beneath the life of every native stream

Their understanding--- free of convention---
A creative act--- in a dimension we do not see
Ideas and insights rising as bubbles---
Vanishing again in the instant
Before they could be caught---
Impressions whirling in from without
And a beneath a second fall--- a third---
And space for diving under---
A place for infinity

A child enters in the unseen image of the visible
Making of his imagined copy
A fantasy of the truest truth---
More real for having no outward form
