Story Diary.) Words of Hope . . .

I've recently been thinking about continuing my book: A BOOK IS LIKE A SACRED ISLE: A Rain of Booklight; a Book about Books; I realized that I had only written and posted them here on this Blog site and that I needed to collect them into a manuscript; so that is what I've doing for the last two days.
But as I was working away I wondered why I had bothered writing all this ‘Book about Books’ stuff anyway:  nobody would ever read it!  (My irrational fear of approaching publishers has been growing lately, rather than shrinking!)
Then yesterday evening a dear friend of mine, Ray, texted me that he had just finished reading all the poems for this proposed book, which I had sent him over two months ago, and what he shared encouraged and comforted me . . . for I know that Ray only writes circumspectly, truthfully, and is careful with his praise of anything I've written:  so that when he does write a kindly critique I can be assured of its veracity!

     ‘. . . I really loved the ‘A BOOK IS LIKE...’ poems . . . quite amazing wee things!’

I’d been seriously thinking that I must have been crazy to write over 40 poems on the same theme!! ...When I asked him if people would get sick of so many poems with the same opening line . . . ‘A book is like...’ ...he said:

‘I thought they were all quite different and unique so that makes them good.

Then after Ray texted the above he reminded me of 'The Bookmark Project' idea....I had almost forgotten it!  I must give it some more thought. He wrote:

And if they are printed on bookmarks then it’s a good thing that there are so many, like ‘collectors’ things!’

Just a few words of hope . . .  and a little bit of encouragement go a long way!   J

The Placemark Poems

As the garden daisies
Shut their eye at dusk
I close my book
Put away those things
Of today, awhile . . .
The life in this book
Must await another time
Or, another day
To take me further,
Along its line of thought;
Take me with it onward
Toward new ideas . . .
New horizons opened
And made my own

The Place I Mark

Where in my book I stop and think that place I mark
Where I found the worded jewel I pause and wait
Let life hold for me that flash of light I found there
Till faith wrests in me that thing of rhythmic gold
And with it wreathes a ring around my questing soul

A Book is like an Ever Winding Road

A book is like an ever winding road . . .
A path to take me deeper to an inner country
Turning corners uncovering thought, new and old;
Offering new ways of seeing to the searching soul

But could I read between its lines, find in its streets
A message, where it in me meets, its matching joy
I would find it light my way: a road to take me through;
Though it never took a step, it led my heart it could un-code

A Book is like a Sunlit Window

A book is like a sunlit window
An inner gilded seeing-place
But shall I truly come to see
Beyond its open shapely casement
A world I had not glimpsed before
Set within the gifted page
Shared with me by one who dared?

A Book is like an Open Door

A book is like an open door
To take me through to unknown places
To go beyond my former walls
And backward glances
Onward through life’s unlatched portals
Deeply hid beneath in the core of me

A Book is like a Soaring Bird

A book is like a soaring bird
If it lifts me up as if on eagles’ wings
It unravels my heart as the twirl of larks
Unlocks that door within that hears it sing

A book is like a silent thermal
If its inner story warms my heart
It pours its life into my inner core
Renews my strength as it lifts me up

A Book is like a Spritely Dance

A book is like a spritely dance . . .
It takes me lightly, holds my hand
Through starlit woods to inner fountains led
It captivates the heart it mends

A book is like a gifted chance . . .
It comes to me, a thing of light I had not seen
Through crowded halls to ivory towers led
It delights the soul it singles out

A Book is like a Living Wind

A book is like a living wind
Its words flow lightly through me
As a freeing thing of air
It is message there to move me
For the simple life it finds
It touches . . .

Its spirit as a breeze, blows
Through my armour
Where it touches my heart
Its Aeolian harp
It lifts my mind in hope
Where it sways my inner strings
It sings…

Of its living airy life I am taught:
Its seed caught hidden in my dark

Writing Saga # 30 / The Lonely Poet & The Bookmark Project / LOVE POETRY? FREE BOOKMARK!

The Lonely Poet

The breeze that lifts the autumn leaf
And bends the silent flower stem
Tears from my midst the finished page
That cannot see what it will be
But joined with life’s own rifling wind
Will write within the heart it rends

   The Bookmark Project:

I have been writing for a long time now, or so it seems to me, and getting nowhere. My writing sits inside my laptop year after year and there it stays. I felt that I had so much to share; but now wonder if anyone wants it. Scribbled insights in gifted thought and heart discoveries flow out every day, both in prose and in poetry; but I wonder how I could possibly be a gift to people if I didn’t give.
One day last week while I was fossicking around for some scrap of paper to mark my place in a lovely book I am reading . . . ‘The Art Spirit,’ by Robert Henri, I suddenly saw what I could do to revive my joy in life again. I could make poetry bookmarks! Real bookmarks!  I could paint slim pictures, overlay them with my writing, and give them away . . . putting them in public places where people can help themselves to one or two. Not everyone has turned to Kindle type machines. There are still many people who actually enjoy reading “really-real” books!
So that is what I am beginning to do; and ‘THE PLACEMARK POEMS’ are flowing out day by day.
I have figured out how I can mass produce them myself at home; the money will come, from somewhere; and I am excited about having a “hands-on” physical project to do. It will promote the love of “really-real” books, and reading, and most of all spread an interest for poetry in a society that has largely forgotten it, or relegated it to something distant and inapproachable. I love art and design, and making beautiful things; and I love giving.
So, watch this space!  …I’ll post photos of the bookmarks I design in two or three week’s time.  Give and you’ll never walk alone!

A Book is like a Melody

A book is like a melody
That sings its song in me
A joy, a light, a splendid thing:
A canticle within

Of wisdom deep in love profound
It shines its dream a pattern
A flighted thing its whispered voice
A singing written fountain

A Book is like a Tree

A book is like a tree in me, these pages are its leaves
Its deeply planted story-root, grows within my soul
Its trunk its message, till its branches reach my heart
That there in blossomed life, its fruits and flowers thrive
Till it find that place its own, where its inner seeds hide

A Book is like a Sailing Ship

A book is like a sailing ship, it travels far and wide
It floats upon the inner breeze, within the sea of life
An inner lighted vessel, its pages wind-filled sails
That takes to heart its host of written freedom-wings
And with them launches out into this gifted deep

A Book is like the Sea

A book is like the sea, reaching far and deep
Its living creatures also roam in moving form
That from my inner harbour’s furthest reach
A worded glimpse that saw the fulmar’s flight
A flash of light that caught the dolphin’s leap
For joy it sets my soul alight in gifted sight
